The 2008 Napa Valley Cabernet is composed of grapes from two different mountain vineyards on opposite sides of the valley.  Stagecoach is located on the rocky, volcanic soils of Atlas Peak and Corbett sits on a rocky hillside just north of the town of St. Helena in the Spring Mountain appellation. Both of these vineyards are approximately 1,000 feet above the Napa Valley floor.

The 2008 vintage produced some truly beautiful, high quality wines, however, yields were low. With one of the harder frosts to date, crop levels were smaller than usual. With mountain fruit these vineyards were able, with their light crops, to produce an intense and complex wine. The wine has subtle vanilla notes on top of dark fruit aromas, with undertones of Napa dust- a famous smell existing in a good Napa Cab. The fruit is framed by coating, velvety tannins and the wine is very well balanced.

The two vineyard lots were fermented separately prior to blending. After gentle crushing and a two day cold soak, a combination of punchdowns and pumpovers were employed during fermentation to gain maximum extraction from the skins without harsh tannins.

Decant this delicious Cab to enjoy now, or you may cellar it to savor for many years down the road.

Jeff believes in working only with mountain Cabernet; quality vineyards at higher elevation give Cabernet unparalleled structure and intensity. The 2006 Jeff Gordon Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of two very special mountain vineyards on opposite sides of the valley: the first is on the rocky, volcanic soils of Atlas Peak; and the second is on a rocky hillside just north of the town of St. Helena in the Spring Mountain appellation. Both of these vineyards are located approximately 1,000 feet above the Napa Valley floor.

This ample, full-bodied wine is polished with a satisfying structure. It has a dense red color with aromas of flower petal, black cherry, and smoky oak. The wine is thick and juicy on the palate with intense flavors of ripe raspberry, chocolate, and cassis. The finish is long and firm with hints of earthy dust. With all its upfront fruit (typical for the 2006 vintage) this is a wine that can be enjoyed now with some decanting. However, if cellared, this wine will continue to improve for over 10 years. This Cab pairs well with savory dishes, such as lamb shank and braised beef ribs, or robust cheeses.

The two vineyard lots were vinified separately before blending. After a two day cold soak, a combination of punchdowns and pumpovers were employed during fermentation to gain maximum extraction from the skins without the harsh tannins. The wine was barrel aged for 20 months prior to bottling: 25% new American, 25% 2-3 year old American and 50% 2-3 year old French.

2005 Jeff Gordon Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points- John Jonna, Wine Review for Car & Driver

$80.00
750ml

The 2005 vintage was slow going at first, but toward the end of the season temperatures rose to ripen the grapes to their full potential. The extended hang time allowed for great flavor development and mature tannins.

The grapes for this wine were picked from cherished mountain vineyards in North/Central Napa.  After a 4 day cold soak, the must was inoculated and fermented in small, open top fermenters until dry. Thereafter, they were pressed, settled and allowed to finish Malo-lactic fermentation in 30 percent first year American oak, and a blend of second and third year old French and American barrels, for nearly 19 months. This wine was bottled unfined/unfiltered.

Our 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon shows deep, almost opaque red/purple.  On the nose are dusty plum and rich black raspberry aromas with hints of anise, roasted coffee bean and cocoa.  The tannins are upfront and coating, but soft and integrated. The velvety tannins give way to soft and lush plum and brambleberry flavors, showing touches of vanilla and sandalwood.

This vintage has proven spectacular for aging and is presently showing beautifully with aeration.  Drink now or cellar this wine for another five to 10 years.
